I will always love you Lulubelle

"Man's best friend" you hear them say.
An understatement, that has to be.
I just hope I was there for her
As much as she was there for me.
Love you Lulubelle... always.

An Ancient Tune

I bought these ancient charts at a hidden antique/consignment store that unfortunately will be closing down after 40 years of business. My dad surprised me by taking me there last weekend after dinner.

Thanks Dad <3
This chart is from 1895.
This lovely lady graces the cover of a 1909 chart. Isn't she as pretty as the colors of the ink?
I'll tell you more of that days adventure tomorrow...
To be Continued.

The Weekend is Here!

With the Hubby working a crazy week, and me having gone back to school, we've hardly had any family time. That's why I am looking forward to a lovely weekend with my guys.
Hope yours is off to a great start!
Now off to do some grocery shopping...
The jars in the pantry are empty :)

The Cedar Box Part II

Remember the cedar box I wrote about on yesterday's post? The treasures didn't stop with what I shared with you then. Inside was also this antique wide gold bracelet. I was excited to see it fit my wrist perfectly!

It will go lovely with the Alexandrite and gold earrings my mother handed me down.
Although this vintage locket is not gold, although it's tarnished and a little bent- it still is my favorite item from the old cedar box. I'll show you why....
Inside is a picture of my uncle who I named my son after. This picture was taken of him shortly before he passed away. He was only 16. I've only met him through my mother's memory.
Sometimes objects do not have to be made of gold, valuable or shiny to have a lot of worth.
It's the emotion attached which means the world to me.

The Cedar Box

My mother handed me this cedar box which had been hiding in her closet for as long as I can remember. It's smells beautifully of cedar when you open it.
Inside I found my mom's calling cards from when she was a young lady.
I think it's so neat how women and men would present these to the hired help when they'd arrive to other peoples homes or businesses.
I was happy to find one of my grandmother's lifestyle magazines inside this box. It is filled with dress patterns, decorating, etiquette and social advice, recipes and gossip. I love it!
My favorite ad is this one which displays perfume curiously named "Cocaina en Flor"
(Cocaine Blossom).
I can't imagine having to iron so many pleats.
The embroidery patterns are darling and sweet.
There were other items in there as well, but my mother kept them for me for safekeeping. I will share one of the items with you tomorrow.
Thank you mom!
~
I was going to save this post for tomorrow, but I was too excited to wait and share this next thing with you.
At the flea market I found a second edition copy of "Materia Medica and Pharmacology" that had once belonged to a lady by the name of Gertrude Piedmonte in 1941 who apparently was studying to be a physician. Isn't this neat? The illustrations are amazing and her handwritten notes I found in slips of yellowed paper throughout the book added a nostalgic touch.
I can't believe the colors on the pictures are still so bright!
A German book by Fritz Thurn whose title apparently translates to "The Man From Geften."
Isn't the font wonderful?
I love finding old things which are new to me.
Do you?

Yesterday was Thrift Shop Tuesday!

Yesterday, armed with $10 I decided to pay a visit to a local thrift shop. And guess what I brought home with me?
I found a perfect toilet paper roll basket for the guest bathroom!
I can only imagine how lovely this chippy wire vase will look stacked with miniature white pumpkins for H.ween! What better object to add height to vignettes than a dictionary from 1928?

After these purchases, I even had some change left!

What have you found lately at your favorite thrift store "boutique"?

:)

I'm glad they were open on Columbus Day!

After driving around town looking for something to do, we came upon a tiny junk shop nestled in between a bakery and a bistro. I am so glad we found that shop because otherwise I wouldn't have found such darling objects such as these French and English saucers.

This serving platter with a courting scene....
A lovely souvenir creamer with a castle depicted in front...
Or this little piece of Americana I purchased for my mom's kitchen!
I hope you had a great holiday!
